Ingenio La Unión is the second Breastfeeding-Friendly Company certified nationwide by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), with the aim of promoting breastfeeding as a right of working mothers during their nursing period.
We are aware that breastfeeding is a basic component of nutrition that stimulates infant development and helps prevent illness, and that it also benefits the household economy of our employee mothers, who are a fundamental part of our processes. That is why we set up a private, pleasant space where they can express and store milk during the workday, along with a kit to carry it home properly.
The commitment began with the support of CENTRARSE. Certification took two years and involved forming a team to lead the project, setting up the friendly space, providing continuous support to employee mothers, creating and communicating policies, training staff and mothers, obtaining the regulatory authorizations required by law, and strengthening knowledge about early stimulation. We invite more companies to join this initiative for the benefit of Guatemalan children.
